Day 5 - Harp Rebel
I could not think of any true “rebel” moments with the harp… so I am borrowing the word REBEL and making it work. R – Relaxing This is one of the most common things people say when they hear harp music. After a Christmas performance, someone told me almost the entire audience had their eyes closed while listening. That stuck with me. There is something special about music that helps people pause and breathe for a moment. E – Events Weddings, church services, holiday parties, teas, funerals… the harp shows up in some meaningful spaces. It is an honor to be part of those moments. B – Beautiful Not just the sound—the instrument itself. Harps come in so many styles and sizes, and each one is unique. (I am a little partial to mine, of course.) E – Effortless (or not quite!) One of the biggest misconceptions is that it is easy. Smooth and graceful? Yes. Effortless? Not exactly. There are a lot of hours behind the scenes that make it look that way. (Click the picture below to watch a video.) L – Lessons I teach both harp and piano, and my studio is a mix of learning, growing, and sometimes figuring things out together. Right now, I have three harp students, which has been a sweet season. So maybe I am not a “harp rebel”… but I do enjoy doing things my own way within it.
