Day 20 - Self-Care Self-care looks different in different seasons. Over the past couple of years, a lot of mine has centered around managing carpal tunnel. I’ve gone down quite a few research paths—looking into supplements, foods, herbs and spices, stretches, heat vs. cold… and really learning to pay attention to how my body responds. It’s been a learning process, but a good one. I still have days with some pain or discomfort, but I’m able to manage it much better now—and I’m thankful to be playing harp and piano more consistently again. Somewhere along the way, one of those “rabbit trails” led me to the idea of hygge—creating a home that feels warm, calm, and comfortable. I’ve added little touches here and there, and it’s made a difference in our everyday life. Around that same time, I realized I needed a hobby. I could have gone back to things like card making or other crafts, but with young kids, I wanted something that also benefited my family. That’s how sourdough started. What I didn’t expect was how much it would help me too—not just feeding my family (and friends… and small groups…), but boosting my mood and giving me something steady and creative to enjoy. The year after I started, I told my husband it was his turn to find his “sourdough.” A few weeks later he said, “I think I found it—I want to join the choir at church.” He joined that January, and it’s been such a good thing for him too. So now I’m curious… What’s your sourdough? Side note: If you’re local and interested in sourdough goods, I occasionally do “sourdough swaps” with delivery or pickup.
I only take on what I can manage at the time, but feel free to reach out with what you’d like and when—you never know, it might work out!
