Day 19 - I’m Really Proud Of
When I turned 40, I took some time to look back on everything I’ve experienced so far. When you’re in the middle of it, each season just feels like “this is what I’m doing right now.” But looking back… it’s kind of amazing to see how much can fit into those years. Since this is #harpril, I’ll keep it to the harp side of things. One of the things I’m really proud of is being part of the Chattanooga Harp Ensemble in 2020. It was such a meaningful experience, learning under wonderful leadership and playing alongside other harpists. And now, I find myself directing the River Region Harp Ensemble. We’ve been performing for Christmas each year in Millbrook, and this past year we even had the opportunity to play in a few additional settings, including a harp quartet. Seeing that growth—and looking ahead to more harpists joining us and more opportunities to play—has been really exciting. I’m also really proud of my students. For years, I watched other harpists grow their studios and thought, “that’s for them.” I never imagined I’d be doing more than teaching a few students here and there. But over the past couple of years, I’ve been able to help several students choose their harps and begin their journey. With so many military families in the area, I don’t always get to keep them long—but it’s an honor to be part of their beginning and then watch them continue on. And finally, I’m thankful for the growth in my business this past year. More inquiries, more opportunities to play, more moments to be part of people’s lives—weddings, funerals, celebrations, quiet gatherings. I still have moments of wondering, “why me?” But I truly love what I do. And I’m really thankful I get to keep doing it.
