Day 18 - Packing Hack
This packing hack came out of necessity. Back in 2017, I was part of a program in Chattanooga called Sidewalk Stages through SoundCorps. After auditioning, we could sign up for busking spots around the city—places like the Walnut Street Bridge, the mall, the airport, and more. The tricky part? Parking wasn’t always close. Sometimes I’d have to park a few blocks away… and I didn’t have anyone with me to help carry things. Leaving my equipment on the sidewalk while I ran back for a second trip wasn’t exactly an option. So I figured out a system. I started packing my music stand, music book, stool, tip jar, extra strings, tuning key, tuner, and even my mat into a suitcase with spinner wheels. That way, I could roll everything with one hand while moving my harp on a dolly with the other (and occasionally guiding it with my shoulder). It wasn’t fancy—but it worked. And honestly, I still use that system today, especially for gigs where parking isn’t close. It’s made setup and teardown so much more manageable.
